Office of Mission and Ministry
Calumet College of St. Joseph
A message from Office of Mission and Ministry
Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ), located in Whiting, Indiana, is a private, four-year Catholic institution founded in 1951 by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood (C.PP.S.). As the only Catholic college in Northwest Indiana, CCSJ is committed to fostering the academic, spiritual, and ethical development of its students by affirming the inherent dignity of all people, promoting social justice, and encouraging a life of service.
The Office of Mission and Ministry at CCSJ plays a pivotal role in advancing the college's Catholic identity and Precious Blood heritage. It supports the integration of learning, faith, and service through a variety of programs that engage students, faculty, staff, and alumni. These initiatives include retreats, seminars, lectures, mission and immersion trips, service projects, and opportunities for worship and spiritual reflection. The office strives to meet students where they are in their spiritual journey, helping them grow throughout their college experience.
Campus Ministry at CCSJ is led by Campus Minister Larry Cubalchini, who holds a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University Chicago. Larry is dedicated to fostering spiritual growth and community among students through the teachings of the Catholic Church.
The college offers a range of spiritual activities and services:
- Mass and Sacraments: Monthly Masses are held on campus, including a Mass of the Holy Spirit at the beginning of the academic year and Masses on Holy Days. The chapel is always open for prayer and reflection. Additionally, students can attend Mass at nearby parishes such as St. John the Baptist and Sacred Heart in Whiting.
- Student Organizations: The Emmaus Catholic Student Association, advised by Campus Minister Larry Cubalchini, provides students with opportunities to deepen their faith and engage in service projects. This organization is part of a diverse array of student-led clubs that cater to various interests, including cultural awareness and leadership development.
Through these efforts, Calumet College of St. Joseph remains dedicated to nurturing the spiritual lives of its students, encouraging them to explore their faith, serve others, and become ethical leaders in their communities.
