A message from University Ministry

Welcome Home!

St. Mary’s is a Catholic and Marianist university, and we welcome students from all denominations and faiths to come together to learn and share at St. Mary’s University. Brothers of the Society of Mary (Marianists) brought Catholic education to San Antonio when, in 1852, they opened St. Mary’s Institute. St. Mary’s University, an outgrowth of the brothers’ first educational undertaking, committed itself to the Marianist ideals of academic excellence, ethical commitment and service to the community.

Hispanic Ministry Outreach

St. Mary’s University has a culturally diverse community, with a large portion of the student population that is Hispanic. University Ministry has established a ministry outreach for Hispanic students to help them adjust to college life and learn more about one’s culture and faith.

Pastoral Care

Whether you’ve reached a fork in the road, are facing a crisis or could simply use some guidance in your spiritual life, University Ministry’s pastoral team is here to help. Our team understands that your experience is unique to you, and we offer spiritual direction, support services and vocation discernment services to meet your needs.

Student Ministry Opportunities

Liturgical Ministry - Sign up to experience Mass in a different light working as a Hospitality Minister, Lector, Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister or Acolyte.

Music Ministry - Join Chapel Choir, "a community in mission" to animate the congregation to sing and pray each Sunday, and at special events. Cantors, musicians and instrumentalists are welcome!

Retreat Ministry - Assist with retreats on campus and weekend Rattler Awakening programs throughout the year. Many opportunities to foster reflection and prayer to nurture the interior life during your college career.

Peer Ministry - Join the Peer Ministry team to foster personal growth in community at the residence halls. We also have a team of peer ministers to reach out to commuters and connect them with a wealth of religious resources on campus.
