Saint Mary Magdalene was a woman from Magdala, a town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, who is mentioned at least a dozen times in the four Gospels. According to Catholic tradition, Jesus cleansed her of seven demons, after which she became one of his most devoted followers.

Mary Magdalene was among the women who accompanied Jesus and the Apostles during his public ministry, and she financially supported their mission. The Catholic Church recognizes her extraordinary devotion to Christ, as demonstrated by her presence at the most crucial moments of his earthly life. She stood courageously at the foot of the cross during the Crucifixion, seemingly unafraid of what her love for him could mean for her own safety.

Most significantly, Mary Magdalene was the first person to see Jesus after his Resurrection. She was the first among the women following Jesus to proclaim him as having overcome death and was the first to announce the joyful message of Easter. For this reason, the Catholic Church honors her as the "Apostle to the Apostles".

The Catholic Church has clarified historical misconceptions about Mary Magdalene. While the Church historically conflated her with the repentant sinner in Luke 7, it later emphasized her role as the first witness to the resurrection. Modern Catholic teaching acknowledges that she most likely was not a notorious sinner, but rather one of the faithful women who traveled with Jesus and the Apostles.

Saint Mary Magdalene stands as one of the greatest saints of the Bible and a legendary example of God's mercy and grace. Her feast day is celebrated on July 22, and she serves as a powerful model of discipleship, faithfulness, and evangelical zeal. The Catholic Church venerates her as a saint who exemplifies unwavering devotion to Christ and the courage to proclaim the Gospel message even in the face of adversity.
